Community Artists Niagara is happy to announce that Emily Andrews is the Ontario Trillium Artist in Residence this month. Emily, will be working out of the Seneca Theatre lobby in October, usually on Tuesdays or Thursdays.  Although Emily first came to media attention in Niagara Falls a few years ago, when she gently encouraged Queen Street residents to “Be excellent to each other”, she is now known as a multi-media artist, working equally to transform household objects as well as for her dreamlike paintings that explore the inner workings of the mind.

At the Seneca, Emily is working on a series of large paintings, both figural and abstract. Her paintings begin with raw canvas which she stains, then sets with media as a beginning to a layered, painted approach. This is both a traditional and unusual approach to surreal or abstract painting, with a dreamlike, modern result. Her transformation of household objects such as tables and chairs results in art objects which retain functionality but speak volumes during their use.

Andrews is a Brock University graduate with a BA in Visual Arts. Come and see her as she works on her new exhibit series at the Seneca Theatre lobby, on Queen St in Niagara Falls. To arrange a time to meet Emily, contact Dean Tedesco, CAn Executive Director at 289-969-4229
